Steelers WR Chase Claypool will 'attack the ball' when given the chance

draft by Chase Claypool

At Notre Dame, Chase Claypool was well-known for his aggressive, physical style of play. It was this nature that attracted the Steelers to Claypool and he will be bringing it in 2020.

That starts with training camp — to an extent.

“I release pretty aggressively, going to attack the ball,” said Claypool in a press conference on Thursday. “Of course, on live plays, you don’t want to be too aggressive because it’s your teammates. You try to keep everyone safe, but you can definitely have a play or two where you can kind of come downhill or something, show your physicality.”

Once the season gets underway, opponents will quickly witness Claypool’s length, strength and speed. He has plenty of physical tools in his arsenal that he’s itching to unleash in games when given the opportunity.

Given the abbreviated training camp and the Steelers history of bringing rookies along slowly, don’t expect that Claypool will be putting up 1,037 yards and 13 touchdowns as he did in his senior season with the Fighting Irish. But this guy clearly has impact potential and with further development will pose a threat to defenses along the sidelines and in the end zone.
