Claypool Impressive in Steelers' Win Against Buffalo

draft by Chase Claypool

Entering Highmark Stadium Sunday afternoon, a roar of seventy-thousand boo’s coming from Bills Mafia rained down on the Black and Gold as they took the field. The Bills, boasting a 7-1 record at home this past season, were expected to continue this impressive home stand, though the Steelers, thanks to an offensive explosion in the second half, played spoiler.

Outscoring the Bills 23-6 in the second half, the Steelers utilized every aspect of their game to complete this comeback win. Special teams, the running and passing game, and a defense that held the Bills to only field goals were outstanding after a lackluster first half. One player at the center of the offensive output was wide receiver Chase Claypool.

Early in the third quarter, Claypool showcased his athleticism making a jumping 22-yard catch against Pro Bowler Tre’Davious White on the sideline that would put the Steelers into the red zone. The Black and Gold would be stopped just short of the end zone this drive, but 3 points would be recorded from a successful field goal.

Late in the third quarter, Claypool nearly scored on a handoff play in which he ran for 25 yards before being forced out of bounds just yards before the end zone. The Steelers would again be held to a field goal on this drive, but Claypool’s run from the backfield helped set up this close range kick.

After these two field goals were recorded, the Steelers offense was ignited and continued to charge down the field for multiple scoring drives. The Steelers would go on to best the Bills 23-16 in Buffalo, giving the team lots of confidence heading into week two and, needless to say, a fair amount of bragging rights. Claypool finished the game with 3 receptions for 45 yards and picked up his first rushing yards of the season with 25.

The Steelers will play the Raiders Sunday, September 19th at 1:00 PM at home.
