New Bears wide receiver Chase Claypool has physical attributes that can help him dominate on the field. During his Scouting Combine the year he was drafted, the former Notre Dame standout ran the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds. He also recorded a 126-inch broad jump and 40.5-inch vertical.

Those attributes enabled him to collect 873 yards and nine touchdowns in his rookie season. He followed up those numbers with 860 yards and two touchdowns in 2021. However since then, Chase Claypool has only had 311 yards and a touchdown in eight games for the Pittsburgh Steelers this season. The Steelers simply had too much talent at the wide receiver position and not enough touches to go around, which ultimately prompted the Steelers to trade him to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2023 second-rounder.

Since arriving in Chicago, Chase Claypool has impressed his new team. His fellow receiver Darnell Mooney has vouched for Claypool’s dominance, mentioning to NBC Sports Chicago that his new teammate is “a dominant athlete” that can make special plays immediately. Mooney witnessed this during their practices where Claypool would make unbelievable plays on 2nd and 3rd downs.

Despite his physical dominance, getting used to the Bears’ complex offensive system won’t happen overnight. After all, there are alignment concerns, route errors, and pre-snap mistakes that must be addressed. But Chase Claypool will get all the help he needs to be on track.

Aside from Mooney and offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, he will also receive assistance from fellow Notre Dame alumnus and Bears tight end Cole Kmet. Bears offensive quality control coach Omar Young has also been helping him with understanding their play concepts and where to line up.

Claypool and Bears will have an opportunity to bounce back and improve their 3-6 record against their division rival Detroit Lions in Week 10.
